House Crush N° 59—Part 1

The most Charming house

Today’s house is a Highlands Classic. This one is crazy charming, and it’s flat-out Mr. ‘P’s all-time favorite! Sometimes we just drive by to take in the details of this quintessential mountain home. Built in 1915, it remains everything a mountain house should be!

The casement windows with the tiny windowpanes and the hand-cut, cedar-shake siding are just too charming for words. The house sits high on a hill surrounded by lush green gardens and overlooks the town of Highlands.

The home features a spring house and a playhouse (or ‘bunkie’) for the kiddos. A friend called me to say it was for sale, and I am thrilled to share the photos with you. Jody Lovell of Sotheby’s in Highlands has it listed—click here to view the details. This is a special House Crush for me, and I hope you enjoy the tour!

I love a gravel drive and this one circles.

Cedar shakes and vines cover the garage entry.

What a lovely way to cover a garage door.

This Dutch door surrounded by charming windows is my favorite view of the house.

A little closer look—a stone path leads to the front door and patio.

The front door is so welcoming—love the arch.

The front door is so welcoming—love the arch.

Established gardens surround the home and stone patios.

Small paths lead to more magnificent views.

An old stone patio and fireplace are a great choice on a sunny day.

The gardens are terraced and lush—love the stone drain by the house.

And that view!

The house just keeps on giving you more to love.

Ferns, rhododendron and hosta fill the garden.

An old baptismal anchors this garden bed.

More paths leading to the amazing view.

Look closer, and the green lawn leads to yet another bridge and path.

They even have an old well house in the front garden.

I love a great stone wall.

This is the side lawn just off the stone patio.

How inviting is this on a sunny day?

There is even a play house or ‘bunkie’ for the little ones.

Stone walls surround the house and the garden—love the hostas.

Hosta heaven!

Part 2 is inside this charming Dutch door…yes, please!
